Where the day really begins.
After a day spent indoors, children step back into the natural world where they can move freely, explore deeply, and engage with their environment in meaningful ways.
Each session is rooted in curiosity and guided by experienced educators, offering a balance of freedom and structure that supports both independence and growth.
Why It Matters
Something essential is missing from modern childhood.
Children are spending less time outside, less time moving freely, and less time learning through real experience. They need space to explore, take risks, and discover what they’re capable of.
Being in nature gives children more than memories. It helps children build lasting confidence, emotional resilience, and a grounded sense of self they will carry with them far beyond the trail.
A Typical Day
Each adventure blends playful exploration, hands-on science, and wilderness survival skills. Guided by the seasons and children’s curiosity, our days may include:
A welcoming circle, snack, and a question to spark discovery
Exploring trails, following animal signs, and investigating habitats
Observing tiny creatures and uncovering how ecosystems work
Practicing survival skills like shelter building, knot tying, and water filtration
Experimenting, solving problems, and building together
Active games, imaginative play, and nature inspired art
Time to eat, rest, and connect with friends
A closing circle to share discoveries and celebrate new skills

Tuesday’s Rancho Elementary ~ Winter 2027 Semester
From the school gate to the park, the afternoon takes a different pace. Sunny picks children up from school, and together we walk to a nearby park for an afternoon of discovery. Each day at Strong Earth offers a new experience, shaped by the surroundings, the season, and the ideas children bring along.
Some afternoons call for learning a useful outdoor skill, others lead us into a science experiment, a cooperative challenge, or an elaborate world of make believe.
Learning unfolds through experiences that invite participation. We introduce ecological concepts and outdoor techniques through demonstrations, questions, and challenges that children can approach in different ways.
Meeting throughout the season allows the group to develop its own traditions and shared projects. Children revisit their efforts, learn from earlier attempts, and take on new responsibilities as their abilities grow. For families, it’s a consistent place where their child can feel known, enjoy being active, and develop a sense of belonging beyond the classroom

Weekend Adventures
A day outdoors can hold so much, a new friendship, an unexpected discovery, or the excitement of learning something for the first time. Our monthly program welcomes children for a day of exploring, playing, and getting to know the natural world together.
Parents drop off at a local Novato park, where Sunny welcomes the group. From there, the day brings a changing mix of nature exploration, science, wilderness skills, games, and creative activities. There’s time for shared discoveries and individual interests, with breaks for food, rest, play and conversation.
Families can sign up one date at a time, making it easy to give Strong Earth a try or make outdoor adventure a monthly tradition.
